Today in church I filled out my tithing slip and asked him to take it up to a member of the bishoprich on the stand. He made his way up, seemingly confident in his destination, turned the corner after climbing the stairs, looked around and then looked back at me. Then he yelled at the top of his lungs to me, and the whole congregation, "Where Matt?" It gave me a good laugh.
I love seeing the innocence of little children. I am fascinated by the ways their minds work- how curiosity is a good enough reason for any act, including emptying a whole canister of baby powder all over himself and the bathroom floor. When I am patient and stop and listen to them, they teach me a great deal.

Kim, We Miss You

The hardest part about losing someone you love is not found in the loss itself.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.- John 3:16

The hardest part is missing that person and the positive influence that they had on your life. Amber and I ventured out today and floated the stretch between 6400 South and 3300 South in Salt Lake. Overall, I'd have to say it is not a bad float. No big rapids to speak of- the biggest hazard is that around bends in the river, the current tends to drag you into these sharp trees that seem to line the whole river. After we learned how to avoid those, we did fine. I brought along my GPS device and marked some nice fishing holes to go back to later and try my luck. We had to get out at one point, around 4500 South because of some "falls". I think we could have taken them, but in the moment I chickened out. It was nice because at out put-in spot and get-out spot there were little landings for watercraft which made it convenient. I would recommend it for a lazy afternoon activity.

Camping and fishing and such

So, I got the camping and fishing bug this year. I finally got it out of my system two weekends ago when we went to a lovely little spot called Lilly Lake, on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Trying to sleep at night when its 40 degrees and you have two little squirmy kids is no easy task. Our best moment was fishing on Teapot Lake and catching some really nice rainbow trout. We brought along our little raft, stuffed all four of us inside and paddled out to a deep spot and three down anchor (a rock tied to some rope). Amber got into the action on day two and hauled in a few herself. Calvin thought the fish were going to eat him, so every time we caught one, general pandamonium broke out in the boat as the fish flopped around and occasianally got blood or slime on us. Too bad we didn't have the video camera. Was a fun trip.

A suggestion

To all of you bloggers and blog-readers alike, may I make a simple suggestion? I have found it very helpful to use Google Reader to keep track of all of my friends who have blogs. This allows you to view all updates on blogs you subscribe to on one single page, eliminating the need to go to the URL of each blog you frequent. I especially want you to do this so you'll know when I post on my blog!
